An isolated semi detached house, on a busy road which is ideal for touring the local area.. However if your intentions are to step out of the front door and pop to local pub, shop or beach, this isn’t the cottage for you. There is a bakery 100m from the cottage and a small general store one mile away. The interior is clean and well decorated in an oldie Suffolk way. To gain access to the first floor you climb steep winding stairs which could prove difficult for guests with mobility issues. The bedrooms were clean and comfortable with the only bathroom off the second bedroom. The bathroom facilities are adequate if a little squashed. The all important WiFi logged on to our apple devices but not our android or kindle devices. All that said and it’s all in the cottage description. we enjoyed the stay and would recommend it as a touring site for those not too bothered about road noise or being in the central location.
We can recommend the Queens Head to eat out which is 2 miles away in Bramfield. We can also recommend ‘first night fish and chips’ in Aldeburgh.
The stairs would certainly be a challenge to elderly people, but the cottage was delightful.. The traffic noise wasn’t an issue and we even sat outside for breakfast a couple of times. The surrounding countryside is great and it is close to Halesworth (The Boardinghouse pub is fab) and the walk from Walberswick to Southwold is definitely recommended! We have arrived home still feeling relaxed from our holiday - what more could you ask for!
We had a lovely weekend.. It was easy to book, the descriptions of properties were helpful and thorough. Our cottage was exactly what we were looking for.
We approached this holiday with a little trepidation as others had commented on the noise from the main road .. We found it was not intrusive and didn't spoil our holiday in any way. The stairs are steep and narrow but just require a little care when negotiating them. The cottage was cosy and well equipped and is in a great position for exploring Suffolk. We had a great week here and particularly enjoyed visiting Orford, Thorpeness, Beccles and Southwold. The area is largely unspoilt by the modern world and enjoys some spectacular locations-We plan to return again to visit more places we didn't get time to see this time.
The cottage was lovely clean and cosy.. We had a wonderful family holiday, it was great for our dog to run around the closed in garden and the kids loved the tyre swing in the tree! Lovely beaches in Southwold and we had a very nice meal at The Ship. Hope to go back.
We only stayed 3 hours after finding the cottage didn't match your description.. It was inadequate for more than 3 adults. Your description says it's suitable for small groups or a family. I don't think a group would be happy to go through a bedroom to use the bathroom and can only use the bottom bunk. You also say that the stairs would not be suitable for someone with mobility issues. Our party does not have any issues and found the stairs unsettling and in the information pack it states don't come down in socks! There are no wardrobes in the rooms, just a rail with coat hangers. The kitchen, is so small so I'm not sure where you think a small party can sit and plan there day. The kitchen is not modern and you are restricted on what you can put in the fridge, so again not suitable for more than 2 people. in your description you state there may be some traffic noise, yet it turns out that this is a major trunk road for the A12! In the owners handbook they also give the impression that this is a major road as they tell you to pass the property from the south and turn around and turn into it from the right showing there has been issues and it's a very busy road. I'm surprised that you don't state the access to the bathroom in the accommodation details as this is a major issue! In all our experiences of renting cottages/houses we've never seen a holiday to let board outside from another company and gives the wrong impression.
A beautiful cottage with lovely scenery.. The cottage is beautifully decorated and had a welcoming feel. The property may be next to a road but this did not take away from its beauty and surroundings The only thing I would say as it is dog friendly, we could not let our pup off lead as the only thing stopping her from the road was a hedge and what looked like chicken wire which she could have easily jumped over. Ella would have loved the garden but she had to be kept on the lead. Having said that I would not hesitate to recommend the cottage. Thank you for a lovely stay.
I have spoken at length with your customer services.. The main issues being the misrepresentation of the noise and closeness of the A12 and A144 to the cottage.
Although the cottage was clean the cottage furnishings in general need updating . Very little effort had been put into the garden in the way of general maintainace and cleaning of furniture.
We have stayed at Sykes 4 star cottages in the past and this comes no where to the expected 4 star rating.
The cottage is on the A 12.. and the road noise is significant. The description says there may be some road noise .
Facilities didn't include wi Fi although it was clearly mentioned.
Sorry but this is the worst located cottage I have ever stayed in.
Very comfy Cottage, equipped very, very well, with a lot of beautyfull details
Superb holiday made my the cottage.. Excellent facilities
28 stone cottage was well situated for all Sufolk villages
Very clean and well equipped lovely log burner.. Would book again
I spent a blissfully happy week here with my dog Hoover. The cottage has everything you want from a cottage but with all the mod cons that make it suit modern living. There are lovely, homely touches and lots of characterful features throughout, which when accompanied by the well-equipped kitchen, wi-fi, tv and the central heating make it the perfect place to escape to whilst keeping up with day-to-day life (should you need to). The doggy and human welcome pack was indeed very welcome: wine, choccies, bisciuts (human and doggy) among other things...just lovely thank you. The road is reasonably busy but it didn't disturb me at all. Instead it meant that the cottage was ideally located to get just about everywhere in the Southwold area in a relatively short journey, and if you're traveling alone but don't want to feel too isolated then seeing signs of life outside the window and having a neighbour next door might be just the thing to make you feel at home. There is a fabulous grocery store just a few metres up the road for any bits and bobs you may need. The garden is enclosed so Hoover could go out for a mooch about without me, and there is masses of parking space. The only slight negative I should mention is that the wooden stairs twist steeply - this could make them difficult to navigate for the elderly or infirm. However this part of the character of the building and therefore something that comes part and parcel of staying in such a lovely cottage. The owners have thought of everything and they were even kind enough to call me the day before to let me know the cottage was empty the night before and that I could check in as early as I liked! How kind! I think we were there by 9 a.m.!! I would definitely stay here again if I were to re-visit the area.
Everything was very enjoyable especially the location and the cottage.. We were also blessed with lovely weather and we didn't want to leave.
We found this lovely cottage very last minute and were certainly not disappointed - quite the opposite - this place is just gorgeous. Small but perfectly formed and beautifully renovated with lots of lovely decor touches to finish. Every detail has been thought of by the owners. Great central location for southwold and aldeburgh. Nearest beach is 10 mins away ehich the dogs and kids loved. Lots to do. Will be back !
The owners had clearly thought of every tiny detail even, we have nothing but praise for this place. We hope to be back next October half term.
We loved the cottage itself, and the decor. And that we had everything we could possibly need.
The cottage has a lovely feel to it. Although it is close to a main road, you don't really notice the sound of the traffic as the peace of the cottage takes over. The various items left as a welcome gift helped to make us feel at home very quickly. The garden was great for the dog and the location made it easy to get to many seaside places in the few days we were there.
We enjoyed our stay in this warm, cosy cottage full of character. The children loved their bunk bed room which also had a TV and the en suite bathroom. Although very small lots of thought had gone into maximising the space. The tyre swing in the garden was also enjoyed by the children. Would recommend this cottage.
Just returned from a lovely trip to Thorington.
Great cottage, lovely welcome gifts, spotlessly clean and tidy. Great location in the middle of everything.
Kids and veteran Daschund loved it!
A very snug and welcoming property, the owners made us feel very welcome without meeting them. It was a home from home.
Thank you for the perfect break away. The cottage is gorgeous and the wood burner is a brilliant touch. The owners were kind enough to let us take both our dogs who enjoyed the cottage as much as us. The location is great to visit Southwold and surrounding villages. The welcome package was much appreciated. If you don't book this cottage then you're missing out! Thank you.
So lucky to have found this property for a last minute unplanned booking. The house is beautifully decorated and it turned out we were the first guests! The extensive welcome pack was an unexpected bonus. It is clear the owners have put a great deal of thought and energy into making the most of the space, and everything you could wish for in a holiday home is provided. We did experience one minor problem during our stay, but the owners are easily contactable by phone/email, and responded immediately to resolve the issue. The house sits right by the busy A12, so some road noise was inevitable during the day although as the weather was hot and sunny we kept the windows open most of the time. There is a huge garden which would be great for families with young children and/or dogs as it is very secure on all sides, and there is more than ample space to park. The location for us was perfect, and we were able to explore this lovely part of the Suffolk coast from Orford to Southwold very easily - there are many beaches within a 10 - 20 minute drive. So why only 4 stars? The only slight negatives for us were in respect of the layout of the house. Access to the only bathroom is from the second bedroom which was slightly inconvenient for us, and the narrow spiral staircase is particularly steep. These points are clearly addressed in the description of the property, but are worth considering if you have anyone in your party with mobility problems or very young children. Overall a wonderful find.
The property is charming and the attention to detail superb. Although the cottage is small, the layout has been well thought out throughout and it is really well-equipped. We were especially touched by the generous welcome box. There is a lot of outside space and the garden is securely fenced so it is safe for children and dogs. The immediate area is lovely, and we explored the coast from Orford to Southwold via Aldeburgh, Thorpeness, Dunwich and Waberswick.
