DO NOT STAY HERE - WISH WE HAD SEEN THE PREVIOUS REVIEW BEFORE BOOKING WITH SYKES COTTAGES. We had no water for three days, this included drinking water, toilets and showers. It was filthy, dust and cobwebs everywhere, a concern for anyone especially those with breathing problems. The heating and hot water did not work properly. The boiler fired up and the control got very hot. There was a fire risk as the electrics did not function correctly and with no water, it just added to our concerns, which included, Keys that didn’t fit locks, windows so dirty you couldn’t see out of them. Sykes Cottages have been no help, and continue to advertise this cottage on their website!

We stayed at Pencoose Barn for the majority of the month of August 2022. The postcode isn’t correct. We drove around for around 45 minutes looking for the correct place. Upon arrival the house itself was not clean. Cobwebs and dust everywhere. The bathrooms weren’t clean, the hoover was broken. We had to sweep for a month. DISGUSTING The bins were supposed to be collected weekly. They weren’t. They built up and we had rats, maggots and flies all over the place. The full bin bags were out in the garden and each night wildlife would rip them open. There was no secure place for the bin bags. The maggots and flies even went into the ground floor of the house which is where all the bedrooms are. DANGEROUS SPIRAL STAIRCASE The light switches didn’t work, my mum slipped down the stairs during the night trying to find a light that worked. This resulted in a broken collar bone, black eyes, bruises and she was forced to leave 3 weeks early. My 7 year old daughter slipped too but fortunately was caught before she was injured. NO RUNNING WATER On two occasions the water supply ran out. We had no water to was, clean, we couldn’t use the dishwasher or washing machine. Although the care taker did his best he just said we need to wait for rain. The caretaker tried his best to help us, alright he lived far away and was hard to get hold of. He made it open the staircase was a problem and he had warned the owners it was dangerous. The location itself is beautiful. The neighbours are lovely and their animals are lovely too.
