Very convenient & quiet location..

When we arrived at the property and attempted to retrieve the property key, from the keysafe, the code for the keysafe did not open the keysafe, even though the code was emailed to me on two separate ocashons from sykescottages, after several phone calls we were given the correct code to gain entry, I must say that when trying to contact Sykes Cottages regarding the keycode, we were answered by a messaging service, not what we needed after an eight hour journey stuck on the doorstep of our rental property costing us £2000 a week.. On entering the property we found that the shower was in need of cleaning before it could be used, (black gunge contaminating the bottom door seal ) cleaned by my wife, the sink in the bathroom was blocked, and water would not empty, I did report it, and a plumber did attend the property, the blockage was rectified but blocked again two days later. We were not informed at anytime by Sykes Cottages that mager demolition workers were being carried out onley yards from the property, for the duration of our stay, causing excessive noise from 8am to 5 pm, this was due to the demolition of the Cliffdene Hotel. We booked with Sykes Cottages to obtain quality accommodation for our family holiday, but have been disappointed on this occasion.

The house was in a perfect location, close to the beach and shops.. It offered spacious accommodation, and would recommend it to others. My only negative was it wasn’t very clean, lots of dog hairs, I had to hoover and mop the floors upon arrival to try and get rid of the hair.

Called the office on the first day of the holiday and left a message with contact details but money returned my call for the whole week we were there.. The front 2 rings on the job did not work, which I would have reported if some one had returned my call. Georgia (I believe it was) who I managed to contact on the mobile contact was extremely helpful when I called her about my concerns regarding the cleanliness of the apartment.

The reason for my feedback is more for whoever is responsible for the security and garden than the actual cottage itself which inside was beautiful, we had a minor issue on arrival with being given the wrong key code to collect keys for which I had to contact a lovely lady who gave us the correct code, which again wasn’t an issue, but for a property that is supposed to be dog and child friendly, the back gate was unsecured and the latch was broken so we had to go to a hardware shop and put on a lock that was a couple of quid that made the back gate secure which the owner could of easily done their self which I knew I would of had this of been my property, there was also advertised a shed for surf storage, the shed had no lock whatsoever and with the back gate also being broken and unsecured, expensive equipment could of easily of been stolen.. The shed was full of rubbish and the garden was literally like a jungle full with weeds, for the sake of my dogs, children and to enjoy our time in the property i weeded the garden myself filling 2 full bin bags which took me around 40 minutes, again, something the owner could of done their self, weeding a patioed garden isn’t a hard job to maintain, every other cottage had beautiful gardens which were clean and looked after, ours was an eye sore. I’ve taken pictures of the gate and the state of the garden before and after if anyone would like these forwarded on, I hope who ever was responsible for these issues appreciates the time and cost to us that this took to rectify for future families to enjoy more than we did. Can’t fault the cottage inside as it was lovely and clean, it’s just a shame the same couldn’t be said for the garden.

We had a lovely holiday staying at Ocean Heights and were very relieved that most of the problems mentioned by previous holidaymakers had been sorted out.. A few more things had been added to the kitchen equipment and we managed to cook a few meals for six adults with what was available , although the front two rings of the induction hob didn't appear to be working. The house is a modern three storey town house on a quiet street with parking for two cars right up to the front door which was really helpful. Five minutes away you have a Tesco express supermarket and ten minutes walk takes you to Newquay main street with shops and eating places , also there is an Aldi and Asda supermarket. The beach is round the corner and across the road , most of the beaches have steps or steep slopes leading down to them but are well worth the effort ! There is a lovely park ten minutes walk away with cafe and Ice cream shop and Newquay zoo opposite. Outside of Newquay there are fabulous places to visit and there are lots of leaflets in the property with information on places of interest. We found the house to have nice furniture and pictures throughout and bedding and towels and bathrooms clean. It is however worth saying for future holidaymakers that the water pressure on the top floor bathroom is extremely poor if there is water being used elsewhere in the property , the shower flashes LP and goes cold and when it comes back on it is very hot until it regulates itself. Also there is no information or instructions for the cooker , microwave , dishwasher etc . which is unusual , just some brief info on the induction hob. No mention of bin collection day which we discovered to be Monday and put the bin to the kerb edge , no sign of a recycling bin or collection points which is a shame in an age where we are all supposed to be doing our bit for the environment. Also this property has nothing left over in the cupboards , often in our experience in past properties there will be things like condiments left in cupboards and washing up liquid and soap powder maybe left under the sink so you do need to nip round the corner to get in some provisions. All in all this is a lovely property in a good location and hopefully the owner will keep up to the maintenance of it now previous issues have more or less been rectified.

Good points: Location, parking, comfy beds.. Negatives: Property advertised as suitable for 6 people. Lounge seating only for 3, luckily the weather was fantastic. Very basic equipment in kitchen. Curtain rail almost falling off bedroom wall - evidence of a recent botch "repair". Marketed as two bathrooms but the water pressure was so poor, despite this being a new-build modern property, that only one person could shower at a time. Dishwasher broken (needed heating element replacing) and obviously hadn't been checked for a long time, as it smelled bad and had mildew all over the cutlery rack. Property management company were responsive, but only the curtain rail could be fixed during our time in the property. I've been in much better, similarly located properties, during summer, that cost less. Very unhappy about the premium we paid for a so called 5* property.

Beautiful house in the perfect location.. In walking distance of 5 different beaches and all of Newquay town centre. We really did have a great holiday and would stay again based on location and size of the property. The only thing that we were not over happy with was the cleanliness and a few maintenance issues Cleanliness - Toilet had not been cleaned properly with dirt along the back of the seat -we could see thick black dust behind the tv -soap scum on the top of the shower unit - kitchen cupboards dirty inside, lump of fat in one - Dust In draws in bedroom - patio area needed a sweep and a wash down. Stains on the floor from previous stays. - patio door and step covered in dirt and cob webs. Maintenance - Handle on down stairs toilet falling off - curtain pole in second floor front bedroom is coming away from the wall - Tile cracked as you walk into bathroom on second floor - planted area in back patio full of weeds, looks untidy and poorly presented - mugs in the kitchen all chipped - House accommodates 6 adults but only has 1 pan and 1 frying pan. Hard to cook for 6 people with just those. Needs a few more. - Toilets don’t have a nice smell in them. An air freshener would not go a miss in the bathrooms.! The house just needs some fine tuning In my opinion and the issues could be ironed out very quickly.

The house was beautiful - the beds were extremely comfortable and made our stay in Cornwall enjoyable.. Loved the ensuite bedroom that felt very contained to the rest of the house. A very nice personal touch of sachets of coffee, biscuits etc which we found on arrival was much appreciated. There was everything provided even 2 tea towels and found compared to other holiday accommodation that the thought that had gone into what they provided was excellent. Would certainly recommend this house to others who planned a trip to Cornwall.
