12 Mountshannon Cottages Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
12 Mountshannon Cottages is a detached cottage in the centre of Mountshannon, a small village on the shores of Lough Derb. The cottage has two double bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room, and a single bedroom. There is also a family bathroom. Downstairs is a fitted kitchen with dining area, and asitting room with the choice of an electric stove or an open fire. Outside, guests will love relaxing on the deck enjoying the views of the lough, and there is a shared lawned area. There is also off road parking for 3 cars. From this Mountshannon cottage is easy access to the ruins on Inish Cealtra, and the many opportunities for fishing, sailing, walking and cycling on offer in the area.

The small lough-side village of Mountshannon on the banks of Lough Derg has a shop and some pubs, and a small sheltered south facing harbour, as well as a small park. Mountshannon makes a good base for exploring Inish Cealtra, the Holy Island with some interesting ruins and a cemetery which is still in use today. Activities on offer locally include fishing, sailing, walking and cycling.

County Clare has so much on offer; boat trips, quirky pubs, seaside resorts and a great tradition for Irish music, all set amidst spectacular scenery such as the towering Cliffs of Moher and the fascinating landscape of The Burren.

Storage heaters with open fire/electric stove in sitting room. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, TV, DVD. Fuel, power and starter pack for open fire inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Travel cot. Off road parking for 3 cars. Decking with furniture, shared lawned area. One well-behaved dog welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shop and pub 2 mins walk.

Tired and uncared for, not to the standard of holiday rentals we've stayed in (3 times every yr)Killaloe,Doonbeg and lahinch exposed electrics, trip switch when two units are used together, poor upkeep, cobwebs, mold, cheap cutlery, delph etc.,possibly taking advantage of the "country cottage "market. Lesson learned!! and we were charged an extra fee because we didn't empty the bin!!

We go to this cottage every year and we love it, everything you need is there.. Mountshannon is a lovely village if you want peace and quiet ,the locals are lovely people and make you feel welcome. If you want to there is a couple of pubs just round the corner ,one of which is opening a restaurant soon .

A pleasant house in a lovely location in walking distance of Lough Derg harbour.. All home comforts provided. The caretaker was extremely friendly and helpful.

*Sykes need to communicate with the owner regarding the visitors time of arrival.. I filled in our approximate time of arrival when booking the house, Sykes contacted me twice to confirm our expected time of arrival and the night before we were due at the house I received a call from the person managing the house as to what time we would be arriving. *The beds were extremely uncomfortable...lumpy and hard. *We had to go out and buy a blanket to cover the sofa as there was a bad odour and they were grubby. It was rather unpleasant to sit on. *Our stay was over a Saturday night and Sunday night. The property is very near the main street in Mountshannon which has 2 pubs and because it is summer people were out in the beer garden roaring and shouting until 2.30am Sunday morning! Not anyone's fault specifically but other future renters should be aware......no sleeping until the village sleeps. *Lastly (which appalled us), we were expected to remove any rubbish (garbage) and recycling we had accumulated during our stay!! This was a first for us. We have never been told this is a requirement in the numerous places we have stayed in over the years! Having paid 400 euros for 2 nights that is extremely unreasonable! In fact it is just unreasonable for any holiday rental property to ask this of tourists/visitors. *We came away very angry and tired.

Up to the usual good standard of properties listed by your company.. The only criticism I would make concerns the disposal of household waste. We had to make a special journey to Scarrif's refuse treatment facility (5 miles away) and pay the charge of €7.00 per bag.

Very comfortable and convenient.. Small points, lighting in the kitchen was poor, under cupboard lights would help. Blinds in the two bathrooms would be nice, as the glass does not obscure enough. Otherwise excellent!

Very handy location.. It was easy to get to the Cliffs and the Burren. Also a must visit is the lovely town of Ennis.

The only thing wrong with the cottage is that there are no outside bins for rubbish or recycling , during the week our kitchen bin was full and also at end of week .. The only place you can take rubbish is to Scariff which is a fifteen minute drive away , could someone let me know why this is as it costs 7 euro each time you go , other than that we always enjoy our stay

Mountshannon is a lovely relaxing area, well known to us but never stayed there before. The house was as described, the lady we had to contact was most pleasant and helpful. Everything was clean and more than adequate for self catering. Just a short walk to the village and space around for the children.
